Random Favourites

Most of my favourites are of Tails. The rest are of bad-ass robots. Barring a few disconcerting additions.

New Desktop

My desktop. I snagged this wallpaper off Sega's Sonic Mega Collection page before they disappeared all reference to games pre-2008. The rest is squeezing Vista until it looks and feels like Windows 98.

Blog 355: Evening's Entertainment

Sat Jul 11, 2009, 11:43 AM
Some of you might have noticed that I've hardly been on the internets in the last week, during my usual evening slot. This is because Drakensang is fucking awesome. It has very much captured my heart...

Read on!

  • Mood: Lonely
  • Listening to: Gary Numan -- I, Assassin
  • Reading: Jack Vance -- Tales of the Dying Earth
  • Watching: Sonic the Movie (again and again and again)
  • Playing: Drakensang
  • Eating: Divine 70% Dark Chocolate
  • Drinking: Pints of Stella

My name is Rao Dao Zao.

--- RDZNet --- MySpace ---

I'm a 3D modeller and animator; but not in any conventional sense (for these days, at least). I like to make things that are low low low in triangles; designed for use in games (though I have yet to build my own, sooo... Yes). And since I started out with the modelling before I was adequately able to make textures, I have adopted a slightly wonky way of using textures; that's to say, everything mapped to one or two pre-set layouts.

And of course, instead of all your fancy renders and lush normal-mapped scenes, you get screen-grabs from Milkshape with that wonderful blue background, or if you're very very good, an animated GIF. At least I now know how to force it into anti-aliasing!

---

I have my fingers in many artistic pies. As well as the 3D modelling and animation, I'm also a keen writer; I keep a blog that is regularly updated (usually once a week), in which I talk about life, the universe, and whatever's making me happy right now. Or whatever's making me rage, it's really pot luck.

I write a bit of fiction here and there, but it's not really show-offable. My last DnD character biography was "lol amnesia", but I still managed to stretch that out to one and a half pages.

I've even experimented with music, from using ModPlug Tracker to assemble general MIDI samples into rough outlines of OMD songs, to using Synthedit to produce my own VST instruments. Unfortunately, I have no musical talent whatsoever so I've got a long way to go on this front.

---

This account does not show-case the full breadth of my artistry; merely some highlights (and some assorted cack that won't fit anywhere else). The full RDZ Industries gallery can be found at RDZNet (along with a lot of older material and fun things like animated GIFs); however, with the advent of Series Y4, this gallery is somewhat out-of-date.

---

Alongside my stand-alone projects, I am a keen mapper and modder. Having fiddled with the likes of Unreal Tournament and Deus Ex (and, sigh, Age of Empires II), I have only managed to make things of note for Warcraft III; but they're mostly singleplayer, so you could well argue that they're not 'of note' at all. Get them here.

---

I'm big into electronic music, especially Gary Numan's (early) work. I suppose it's fun that most of the music I'm into was created well before I was born, but I've managed to see a surprising number of them live -- Ultravox, Mr. Numan (twice), Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (twice), A-ha, and the Human League. If you're remotely familiar with any of my favourite artists, then you'll quite easily spot how heavily they've influenced me.

---

And as if you hadn't worked it out from this immense introduction, I'm quite talkative. Except with complete strangers (unless alcohol has been consumed). So since I'm a shameless self-publicist, I'll link to my blog again.

I want more robot art pl0x.
If you're having trouble running LBAII, perhaps this website holds a clue:
[link]

If I remember right, that's where I got the awnser to running it on xp.
Ahh, yes, I couldn't remember it. I had to get the fixed EXE that stops the screen splitting into discrete lines on XP. Vista has been good so far, so I'm sure it'll be fine.
Thanks a lot for the :+fav:
